Why does Jang Wonyoung lack drama offers, or variety roles when compared to other IT girls of previous generations?

  • Jang Wonyoung's fans have always liked to hype her up to the newest generation's IT girl, but why does she lack actual substance when it comes to work on television?

Previous idols who have IT such as Suzy, Yoona or IU have been offered drama roles very early on, and have been variety favourites as solo guests or regular hosts. They are literally everywhere on TV and are always on entertainment shows, being super popular with the GP.

The only significant role Wonyoung has is a Music Show MC hosting role, but that's hardly anything special. Even her bandmate Yujin has one under her belt, and plenty of idols have done them, as the roles are often rotated around the idol/actor world.

So why hasn't Wonyoung been offered a TV drama yet? Or why hasn't she have a regular variety show program role, or been a super popular variety guest like the "IT girl" that she is?

    Approved the thread.
  • age for drama im sure she will get plenty of chances when shes older and i dont think she is very good on variety shows

  • Maybe she isn’t interested in acting or variety rn?

Jennie doesn’t act or go on variety and she’s good

  • maybe she wants to focus on her music career right now?

She is still a teenager, how much people want her to take on?

  • Are you the same person who made the last thread lol

Well, to answer your questions, there are multiple reasons to consider.

    1. Does Wonyoung want to be an actor?

I think at some point she might have mentioned considering it, but if she was truly set on that path, she would have done what Minju is doing now, which is auditioning for roles behind the scene instead of debuting again in an idol group. Being in an idol group takes up a lot of time, and most of them don't have room to work on movies while being an idol without having to take time off to focus on one or the other.

    2. Her group just debuted.

She is barely 17 years old and It makes no logical sense for her to run off and do acting when her group is literally not even five months old yet. Right now is time to focus on and build the group.

    3.

You mention IU, Yoona, and Suzy, but none of them were jumping into acting as rookies, let alone 5 months after they debuted. Also, you neglected to mention both Jennie and Irene. Jennie, who hasn't bothered with any acting, and Irene who only did one web drama in her whole career as an actor.

    4.

Acting has nothing to do with being an It Girl.

    5.

And even if it was, how would anyone know if she was receiving acting roles if they aren't a part of her company?

Hope I answered everything for you~

  • IU was at the same age as Wonyoung when they were in Dream High, and Suzy was younger than Wonyoung at the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but not IU nor Suzy were fashion ambassadors at the time, Wonyoung main focus is on fashion not acting. I'm sure she was already offered many roles, trust me almost every Starship idol had acting gigs (Monsta X and WJSN at least) Monsta X even had a role as themselves in a chinese drama, Bona is currently on a netflix show with no one less than Kim Taeri, and now I just remembered Donghyun from Boyfriend also starred on a web drama that was pretty popular in SK (The Miracle). Trust me if we're not seeing her acting is because she/Starship currently have other priorities.

  • Still too young maybe?

She might also just not have the ability, especially acting in Drama

She still looks a bit frozen and stiff on the show she hosts

  • Jennie and hwasa don't do acting either. Female idols don't need acting anymore to get big. Also have u considered how young she is? You big3 stans can cry everyday cause your girls aren't getting on her level anytime soon.
