I am so tired of second gen stans saying they paved the way.

  • Their faves most certainly did not help with my fave’s global popularity even if they are in the same company. If they did not do anything for acts in the same company, what more for kpop?

    Most speculations are just reaching.

  • Even tho you weren't around 15 years ago kpop was already expanding beyond sk, so yes, they loved the way for today's idols to expand even in the west.

  • 2nd gen paved the way :-P

  • They paved the way in japan and other Asian countries. They made kpop more known there but I don't think they've any contribution in making kpop big in west. I joined kpop when it wasn't known in west. BTS deserves the credit here.

  • And I'm tired of user trying to talk down 2nd gen achievement and think there is only the one way that was paved :|:|:|

  • You are probably 7 years old so you don't know better. 2G idols did certainly pave the way. They're the ones who got noticed outside Korea/Asia, they're the ones who are often copied by newer idols, they're the ones who did certain concepts and sounds before idols now so it's not something "new" thst has never been done before and so on.

  • The seniors worked hard so the kids that come after them could eat. Imagine you're that senior and some kid come up to you and say 'you didn't do sht!, my group did!'. Yes, my group that magically appeared without any formulas that was molded for them from existing groups, my group that introduces everyone to KPOP because apparently no one knows what KPOP was before my group. My group made KPOP globally because the definition of KPOP weren't invented before my group.

Do you guys hear yourself? lol. There can only be current existent groups because there were groups before them. JFC you kids are ungrateful brats.

  • We all know they did and there's no denying. Where do you think the current groups came from?

  • 1st gen: paved the way for Korea

2nd gen: paved the way for asian countries and a bit of the west

3rd gen: kpop became even more popular in asia and paved the way for the west

4th gen: establishing kpop in international markets further (?)

  • No generation, group, soloist or company has single handly paved the way each generation has contributed in paving the way.

But you can have opinions and just like you are allowed to so are they

  • They paved the way in japan and other Asian countries. They made kpop more known there but I don't think they've any contribution in making kpop big in west. I joined kpop when it wasn't known in west. BTS deserves the credit here.

Psy deserves a lot of credit for opening the west. Had Gangnam Style not hit it huge in the west, BTS wouldn't have had a chance.

  • i hope ur implying that 3rd gen groups paved the way bc 4th gen hasnt done anything

  • It's really just a fun, catchy way to express your appreciation for a generation. Every generation and big group paved the way in some sense. No need to get worked up over it.

Most of the time, when stans say this, they're not even trying to downplay what the other groups or the following generation has accomplished.

Different acts did things to make an impact. It's that simple.

  • They did PAVED the way though

Like it or not the Hallyu term became a thing because of 2nd gen (and kdramas) not because your 3rd gen faves

  • Psy deserves a lot of credit for opening the west. Had Gangnam Style not hit it huge in the west, BTS wouldn't have had a chance.

He was the first act to have a global hit but I don't think he opened the western worlds gate. No one was doing promos on those western shows till bts entered the market. Do u know that bts is not the first act to chart on social 50? 2pm is. But their entry didn't have any impact on other groups but after BTS the chart was by occupied by dozens of kpop acts. Look at BB 200 and companies inviting kpop idols to their shows and signing them under their companies after BTS'S sucess is the biggest evidence I don't get it why do u people still deny it. Compare the kpop of 2016 to that of 2022
