Why is BTS the only korean act invited to perform on American award shows?

  • They have been invited since 2017, there are no other kpop acts as Big as BTS on 2017?????

Is America afraid of korean domination?

  • I wish Lee Jieun, the only counterpart of BTS still standing, is invited too to spite it

  • They are by far the most popular

At this point those award shows need bts more than bts needs them

….Maybe bp could be invited to one, but yg would never except

  • because they are the biggest korean act ever & because often, the act has to be nominated for something to be able to perform. no other korean act has ever been nominated for a respectable western award at such shows.

  • because it's profitable lol

huh? If they performed in Coachella. YG won't allow a them to perform in Grammys even if invited?!!

  • I mean they are the only one gaining traction there and can actually challenge American artists. (BP at smaller extent then BTS)

  • Bts is the only one making enough waves to get invited. Bp has a much smaller fanbase in the us that's big by kpop standards but not enough to get on the radar of award shows. They do worse than random indie artists who are also not invited.

If you notice BTS can compete in charts against top stars in the us. No other kpop group can do this. They usually chart high one week then drop off the charts the next. If a top act releases at the same time chances are their placement would be heavily affected. Even for bb200. Award shows like billboard are purely chart based and bts gets invited to that without fail because they actually chart.

Apart from that, other groups don't make much noise outside the kpop niche. Bts is always making headlines for something or another and now they are part of the pop culture there. Even without charts they'd be relevant because of that alone. All in all, no group has close to their kind of presence there.

  • bc theyre literally the only kpop group that the west can name. blackpink too but they dont have enough comebacks. as much as kpop fans want to push the narrative about kpop being super popular bc groups trend in the top 200 or whatever, the us genuinely doesnt know any other groups apart from bts and blackpink. maybe bibi if theyre into 88rising but thats abt it

  • BTS is the only korean act that's actually competitive against a-listers western artists.

But when they were invited the first time they weren't competing with a list western artists. I mean now is pretty obvious why they invite BTS.

There are several groups as popular as BTS was on 2017 but they are doing 0 noise in America.

Maybe because the west can only take one group at a time from each gender

Because kpop was the new in thing at the time and BTS was at the forefront killing it. Back then no one had reached those heights in kpop so what they were doing was more impressive. Everyone was talking about them and armys went full force with the promo.

I'm curious which are these several groups you claim to have reached 2017 BTS?

In 2017 BTS had the longest charting group song on hot 100 with mic drop at 10 weeks. This record wasn't broken until 2020 by BTS themselves. Not even bp has cracked this with the Selena collab and label push.

You know not one single group has managed to outstream the LY Her bsides apart from bp? Even when kpop is as huge as it is in 2022, no group can debut with higher streams than bsides from 2017...

Just because groups are selling millions like it's going out of fashion doesn't mean they're as popular as million seller BTS from 2017. Album sales are hella inflated these days do they don't show the true popularity of a group.

  • There are tons of western acts who go to these amercian award shows are less popular than k-pop groups in America.

K-pop groups are outsiders for these award shows, they've filled their quota by inviting one.
