Will kpop album sales drop once kpop groups can start having world tours with full capacity as it was before the covid-19 pandemic?

  • We all saw a huge and insane increase in kpop groups album sales once the pandemic started. Fans had nothing else to support their faves if not buying albums without world tours for over two years.

Kpop is also getting bigger and it was expected for sales to grow a bit more too.

But do you think if everything will return as it was before the pandemic, the sales can have a drop as fans can go back to spend money for concerts too?

  • Yes, I think physical sales will drop momentarily, but they will still be higher than pre-pandemic levels since many more people became fans after the pandemic started. Eventually, the sales will get back to their pandemic levels as more people become fans.

For certain top groups, I can actually see them increase their sales even after starting large tours.

  • album sales were rising even before covid. i dont think the increase has much to do with the lack of tours. only a small percent of fans ever even attend live concerts

  • album sales soared not because of lack of tours...it was because of lockdowns they had nowhere to spend their money. People ate out less, little to no travel, etc = swimming in disposable income.

  • the sales may increase less than during the pandemic but I doubt they'll drop except the groups that are losing popularity,

  • I bet the increased sales are bc of the online fan signs

Suddenly you dont have to be in Korea to win a fan signs, so more people apply, more competition, more sales

even if pandemic is over, companies wont give up on online fan signs

it costs them nothing, they lock up your favs in a room with a webcam and net connection, maybe even give them water bottle and cash tons of money

  • maybe maybe not since given that there is precedent already I'm sure fandoms wouldn't want their favs to see a decrease in sales

for example if a group sold 500K and only reached 400K that fandom would want to push those sales up in order to not be seen as flopping
