Do you think Somi has to do the XOXO challenge before IU?

  • A common parlor game among the high officials of Korea in 17th Centuy was how long the Dowager Queen should be in mourning after the King died. The standard for the first son's family was 2 years while the standard for other sons was 1 year.

First of all, the Dowager Queen had nothing to do with the King. She was a second or third Queen of the late king, and was NOT the mother of the dead kings.

Second, there was some dispute on the succession, so it was questioned whether the king, by virtue of his kingship, was the first family or he was the second family, which entitled to a shorter period of mourning.

So the high officials fought for years about it, long after the period of mourning in either case had passed.

MAMA declared IU a Senior Singer, but that created another question ; whether she is Senior to everyone in KPop regardless of their countries of origin, or she is only Senior to those who were born in Korea and not Senior to people in KPop who were not Koreans.

(That creates a new issue among Korean-somethings who are not technically Koreans, like Roseanne Park, but that's another issue I will deal with later.)

Now Ennik 'Somi' Douma is doing the XOXO challenge with other singers, the most recent with Son Seungwan of Red Velvet.

Son Seungwan is 7 years older than Ennik, meaning she has no trouble asking the challenges to older singers.

Now, there is the ultimate question.

Is Ennik, as a Canadian, obligated to do a Challenge to Lee Jieun because she is KPop's Senior Singer, or is Ennik exempt on doing that with IU because Ennik is not a Korean?

Just like my other questions this is a philosophical questions, but like the question I cited above, which was about the legitimacy of the king ultimately, this question touches the bases of Kpop ; whether people like Ennik, who are not Koreans, still have to be judged by Kpop standards or they are outside of the Kpop standard because they are not Koreans.

Yes, because Somi is Korean. Her mother is Korean and she moved to Korea when she was 1 yo, so she has Korean nationality. The rest of the post does make much sense.

I don't think she will identify as a Korean in private
