they still bring up that one mistake and its really just humiliating to think about because i feel so stupid about it now.

in my case, with the mistakes I made, I would acknowledge that mistake has become part of my life. Peers who constantly bring your mistake to light is (1) not the friends you should hang out, and (2) tell them, "so what? you gotta problem about a mistake I made".

I have done both of them, and now no one reminds me on what I have done wrongfully.

P.S. this applied for me, but it won't apply for everyone.
