    Having a hit song is important for the legacy of the group.

    The GP and people that are not kpop fans don't keep up with album sales. They would remember your hit songs.

    Absolutely, it's indicative of people's interest in a group and their popularity. More people will also check out the song/group and future releases if a song does well. Digitals are not the only thing a group can be successful in (some can focus on physicals) but it is important and having the public's interest also opens up other opportunities like CFs and variety shows.


    Of course, there's some exceptions like a group having a viral hit and nothing else to their name (no fanbase, no physicals, no interest in them outside of the song) but if a group has other things indicating interest, a high melon charting is very good! :)
