Not your fave, not your fandom, not your business

  • Thots are something totally different where I live but.. :/

To answer your question, context to me is everything. If you walk into a thread that’s “I love and am so excited about song y or group x” where everyone is talking about their excitement and love just to say “I think that song is shit” or “their music is trash”, that’s just being a dick, not expressing “your opinion.” Let people have nice things.

If the question is a bop or flop thread or one asking for opinions, then fire away. (I confess that maybe I’m too literal and I can’t always tell when people actually want an opinion vs praise on a topic like “don’t you think x is the best at y?” And scamper in to offer my opinion “I think j is the best at y” and am told it’s an appreciation thread for x. Oops. You’d think after this many years in Kpop I’d know better but I do always tend to think it’s actually a question when people ask things that way…I’m trying to learn to just walk past those threads and not comment at all. I like to talk about music even if we don’t agree..)

I do think there’s a measure of responsibility in your hot take: if you come in firing shots, don’t act surprised and oppressed when people fire back just as hot. If you’re minding your own business and just left a “yeah, not my jam” and people lose their shit, then yeah, I feel you. If you come in with “I’ve taken a shit that are better songs than this,” don’t try and act like the victim if people take off their earrings and want to fight.
