There are many opinions about what the top groups are. However, the only ones we’ve come across that appear to have an objective basis are those created by the Korean Business Research Institute. These rankings are determined through an analysis of the consumer participation, media coverage, interaction, and community indexes of various girl groups.The Korean Business Research Institute statistics are released monthly. Our analysis provides a broader and more balanced view by combining the monthly rankings into annual averages. These rankings are based on social media metrics only. For example, TWICE has ranked number one for one period, number two for six periods and number three for eleven periods during the time that we have maintained data for this analysis. The popularity of the top groups is remarkably stable. The lower the rank, the more variable the rank distribution becomes. Note that IZ*ONE is still included even though the group disbanded on April 29th, 2021. Our rankings are 12-month averages so it may take some time for IZ*ONE to disappear from these rankings.

The first column shows the difference in rank between the current month and the previous month. The next column shows the difference in rank between the current month and a half year ago.
Brave Girls shown the largest increase moving up one position since last month and 41 positions since half year ago. Their increase in popularity is due to a sudden surge after their song "Rollin'" unexpectedly went viral recently. aespa continues its rise moving up one position to 17th place since last month and up 12 positions from 29th place since half year ago. aespa is a four-member group which premiered in November 2020 with the digital single “Black Mamba”. On the other hand, LOONA has shown the largest decrease in popularity moving down one position since last month and down four positions from 12th place since half year ago.
