GDA committee changes criteria for digital music category

Why am I feeling they will mess up the new formula?

They should just push back the awards and use a 6-month window or something like that. Or the best 24-weeks, idk.

Ideally they should give a 1-year window to every song, but that requires them to push the awards back 1 year.

But seriously I hope the amendments factor in songs that slays in longevity and does well consistently.

You could solve all those problems if the award show staff would simply plan the award show 3-4 month after the year ended. This way you have pretty decent overview on which songs were very successful.
But it would be even better if quality would win. And maybe get judges that don't want to appease to fans of a certain group.

Could have done this last year , dynamite could have won
