that's why im curious to see what standard kpop stans use to determine if things are flopping or not because there isnt a definite standard. So then are they using more comparative stats with certain top kpop groups, kpop's growth over time, or just simply making things up as they go according to their bias? For me I think it is hard to really come up with a definitive standard. Most importantly is to compare themselves with previous successes and whether or not they did better than before.
Like I have different 'standards' for my various faves. I don't expect all my faves to meet the same standard because every group is different. If people hold your faves to a higher standard, that is actually a good thing because they expect more from them. And if they did meet those expectations good for them. If they didn't, it doesn't matter anyway
Another interesting narrative that is now being spun is refusing to call Dynamite a national hit cause it is in English and erasing all of its association with Korea saying it is an American song as if no other Kpop groups ever sang songs in English in which they had no songwriting or composing involvement.

OP there have always been different standards set for BTS even when they were a rising group. As you can tell BTS kept getting bigger with every release, but they were dragged with no daesangs, no paks and very foolish metrics just to undermine their growing success.
Now that BTS have made all the metrics above irrelevant, kpoppies need to find other ways to downplay BTS. It is a game which will never end
