'I know you drink wine'
'You have a horse'
'Do you drink wine?'
'Do you have a horse?'
The problem with duolingo isn't within the program itself, it's just that people view it as a sole resource, when in fact nothing can teach you a language alone (except being surrounded by people who speak that language). It's a mere supplement, meant to give you tips and practice and community of people with the same goals as you.
