Are Perfume the longest running girl group in history without hiatuses?

  • Perfume’s latest album came out yesterday, Nebula Romance part 2.

While I think Perfume’s last masterpiece album was probably Future Pop in 2018 (and many of their albums are indeed masterpieces), they hold a special place in my heart as being the first girl group I ever stanned (Nocchi bias). I first heard them with Vitamin Drop in 2006

That was, *checks calendar*, 19 years ago now

Their new album got me thinking. Perfume debuted in 2002, and debuted on a major label in 2005. In kpop terms that makes them a Gen 1/Gen 2 group. Since 2002, they have released at least 1 new song every year. A 23 year unbroken streak. They have released albums in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2022, 2024, 2025.

Can any other girl group in history even come close to this?

I feel like their longevity should be celebrated more.

  • They're goat status for me. I think it shows you how good they are to still make hits for 20 years. I think this group is very influential for sounds we're hearing in pop music across the globe. I know it's mainly the producer but they helped create the sound.
