I cringe at something I once did in a Chinese restaurant

  • Or it was more of a buffet thing in my country that had Chinese food (or Asian food at least).

It was back then when I was an early teen and had learned Mandarin from freaking Ni Hao Kai Lan.

And when me and my family were done eating at that place, and we were on the way out, I was bowing and said "xie xie"...

I don't remember there being any Chinese person working there.

I guess that is like saying "gracias" after eating at Taco Bell...

  • That kind of thing happens to the best of us! Once, at a buffet with all kinds of international food, someone enthusiastically said “arigato” after eating sushi—turns out the staff were all local and didn’t speak Japanese. It felt a bit awkward but honestly made the meal more memorable. Funny how language learning shows up in unexpected moments. Speaking of food adventures, finding the best restaurants koh samui was a lifesaver on a trip, showing how different cultures really celebrate food in their own way!
