I've never understood how Hwasa has the weakest individual sales in Mamamoo

  • The difference in their sales isn't huge, but I've never understood why, given that Hwasa was one of the standout IT girls of the 3rd gen and the only member in her group with a hit solo song, her album sales ended up being having the lowest among the members. She tick all the boxes and, as the most well-known member with the general public, I expected her to have the largest individual fanbase or receive the most support from Moomoo. I mean, look at her ig followers. So, with sll this, it just didn’t make sense to me.

Could it be that, compared to the other members, her releasing fewer albums played a role in that? Perhaps many fans were tired of waiting or something. Still, it surprised me that, considering the massive success of 'Maria,' it didn’t boost her first comeback sales more.

    Example:

    Wheein

    Debut 2019: 24k

    First cb 2021: 76k

    Latest cb 2023: 85k

    Moonbyul

    Debut 2020: 79k

    First cb 2022: 88k

    Latest cb 2024: 116k

    Solar:

    Debut 2020: 84k

    First cb 2022: 49k

    Latest cb 2024: 57k

    Hwasa:

    Debut 2020: 70k

    First cb 2021: 37k

    Latest cb 2024: 17k

  • the only member in her group with a hit solo song,

    This is blatantly wrong.

    *sigh*

I really wish people wouldn't speak on Mamamoo unless they know the facts, or at least ask someone who does, such as myself.

Hwasa wasn't even the first Mamamoo member to get a hit song. It was Wheein

She went #1 on MelOn and most of the other charts with Anymore

She also had another #1 hit that also secured an All-Kill--Goodbye

Please, people. Put respect on her name.

To answer your question, it's because general popularity with the public is not the same as popularity within the fandom, as I've explained to people here so many times in so many conversations.

In the MooMoo fandom, Moonbyul has the most dedicated fans and that's why she has the best album sales. Hwasa probably has the smallest, and both Solar and Wheein are in the middle.

Hwasa has the most popularity and appeal with the general public though, so it all balances out

  • Simple, as Yama-Chan mentioned, Hwasa has the general public and western multi fans attention so they stream but they aren't invested like her actual fandom so don't buy and the wider moomoo fandom is always poor when she drops music, which tends to be without warning or just with bad timing.

RBW announced her 2021 CB just before group seasons greetings were announced so some cancelled their orders. It had barely any promotion and was 2 months after the group compilation album dropped so people had to choose and many choose the group over a solo. Then she moved to P Nation. I love my body and chili were... controversial to say the least so some people didn't have much hope for O (and alot seemed to hate NA) which hurt her popularity with multi's. Moomoos wanted to support but no-one in the fandom had the money. P Nation announced it less than 2 weeks before the CB date September 19th. But before that, and with far more notice fans had:

    Musical

Solar Mata hari musical - January to June and December (and if memory serves EMK allowed international fans to buy tickets and watch online)

    New Music

    Moonbyul - February and August

    Solar - April

    Tours

    Solar - June and July

Moonbyul world tour - March to August and November to December

Wheein world tour - February to August

Hwasa - April, May and June

That is still not including all the random festivals they attended like waterbomb where fans had to buy tickets. Also I swear there has been a whole thing for most of the year about Hwasa's CB being delayed to the point she even apologised on insta live about it.
