Thinking about times when I have rented a non-fiction book in the library and...

  • ... then found out that the book was written decades ago.

One problem with books like that is that they might contain outdated information.

Even though I might read books like that and think stuff like "It's not called Czechoslovakia anymore"

But I guess that there are times when I can't tell if something is an outdated fact or not.

When I read a book about Åland just for fun. It was written in the 90's and I'm sure that Åland has probably changed a lot since the 90's. (that might apply for a lot of countries)

I remember though when I read an old Danish book about deaf culture and there was a chapter called "what will deaf culture be like in 2020?"

  • I made going to the library as a bicycle ride destination. Thirty mile round trip on bike paths.

Checked out books on varied subjects. Always brought back a book on Paintings and Sculptures. Next popular subject was History of Civilizations.

Science books written about cutting age developments of their times, stocks the shelves. Read a Book on Cloning from decades ago. Cloning research was at the stage of replacing DNA in hollowed out Gamete cells. The book went on to predict Cloning in the future. Those predictions are facts today. Some predictions have not occurred, yet. One in particular is disturbing Cloning Humans solely as Organ donors. Another one is artificial human incubators. Not considered was DNA manipulation.
