  • Transporting even the exam tickets left at home… “Is this a call taxi?” Police complaints explode

It is a recurring sight every year that police officers rescue students who are in danger of being late during the College Scholastic Ability Test in patrol cars. There is controversy within the police department as some argue that this is beyond the scope of their duties. There is a clash between the view that this is a public safety service that can be provided for citizens and the counter-argument that it is beyond the scope of their duties.

According to the National Police Agency on the 15th, police transported students in police cars 154 times on the day of the CSAT. They also provided conveniences in 187 cases, such as finding test tickets left at home.

On the application 'Blind' where office workers can leave anonymous opinions, complaints poured in from current police officers such as "Is escorting test takers now a traditional police job?" and "How will you respond when there is an emergency report?" There were also responses such as "Are we call taxis?" and "No money, no pretense, no pride." The argument is that the repeated favors have become an absurd practice.

  • I don't think this is an issue. People forget police are first community servants. The whole protect and serve has a meaning. This should be left up to officer discretion if they want to help a citizen with a non emergency matter.

Nobody has a problem with this if you ask a cop to help you carry things when you're hands are full, or ask for directions or ask for a ride to the nearest hotel, bus station etc when you get lost. Yet this is where we should draw the line?

Police helping the people is always a good thing it keeps them grounded in being part of the community so that mutual trust remains with both sides lessening the chances of abuse and corruption.

By making them feel they belong and by not isolating them preventing that us vs them mentality we see in western police
