In this stacked season, the anime I was looking most forward to was Yuru Camp, however Non Non Biyori has blown my mind with how good it has been. I can really put a finger on specifically why it is so good, but watching it on sundays has been relaxing and the highlight of my week as I start to prepare for exams.
I think it is probably because all the main characters are already established and developed that I find this season so entertaining, as I am already attached to all the characters and seeing them act and interact in new situations is so entertaining. The cast acts like you expect with Natsumi being stupid, Komari suffering, Hotaru being mature and childish, and Renge beind cute and wholesome. Yet we also get so much more. Moreover, the red haired duo of new characters Shiori and Akane are absolutely adorable and are great supporting younger characters from Renge and Konomi to take care of.
The music, animation and backgrounds are all gorgeous as expected. Furthermore, the comedy this season is killer. I don't usually like comedy in anime, but the comedic silence used is amazing. Seeing Renge and Shiori debating the laws of physics had me fucking dying. There is also a slightly subtle sombre and sad undertone as this is the last season and all the children and growing (this is especially highlighted in the latest episode). This season is a really fitting send off to one of the greatest SoL anime ever.
