The U.S. has drastically increased the application fees for foreign artists to perform in the country

  • And people always buy our music abroad. Supply & demand. If it works, it works.

What makes you think other countries don't already do this?

    Actually, they don't always do.

I don't. And more and more people I know don't either, but are looking to other countries for their music. Some others think American artists behave and dress like porn stars nowadays and they're also drifting away from them because of this.

My country doesn't do it, but I think we should now for American artists :-)

Alas, you're but a drop in the bucket. If you and your circle of friends stop listening to American artists, whether it be out of ultra-conservatism or for any other reason, no one will even notice. But purposely make it too inconvenient for big American artists to tour your country? People will definitely notice that. By contrast, BTS could be permanently banned from the US tomorrow and it wouldn't even be a blip on the radar for 99.9% of the population.

Fact is, the world wants our artists a lot more than we want theirs (with the exception of big artists from other English-speaking countries.) We're also the biggest, most lucrative music market, so everyone else wants to break into it. That might all sound egotistical, but it's 100% true. They're simply not on a level playing field, which makes it easier for us to do things like this.

Not the whole world is the UK or countries that slavishly consume everything the US is trying to push on them. Deal with it :-)

Seems you're one of those Americans who can't see much beyond their own American perspective and thinks the whole world thinks like them.

Since you want to use percentages, the great majority of people doesn't go to concerts of American artists and wouldn't give a shit if they're not happening, sorry.

If you aren't going to stop lying to me, at least stop lying to yourself. ^^ This has nothing to do with having an "American perspective" or "thinking like them." It's about worldwide consumption of our cultural hegemony, which I happen to know for a fact is a very real thing, so you won't be able to convince me otherwise. Some of us do travel, you know.

Taylor Swift and Beyonce recent world tours say different.

Metallica is also doing a world tour that should sell out at every stop.

So some Americans still think the US is as cool as it used to be.

Not by a long shot anymore. Sorry if that annoys you. :happyr:

If you genuinely believe that it still is, you know very little about the rest of the world.

The setting of this exchange tells me otherwise. If the US is so uncool for school, why are we both currently on a website dedicated to another country's blatant mimicry of American music & style, which is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about? Shouldn't you be listening to your local folk music instead? Or if you want to look genuinely interested in Korean music, at least trot or something? Literally anything that isn't so heavily influenced by America? :/
