Sometimes when I write male characters in stories...

  • I wonder if I write them in a way where you can obviously tell that it is a female author, who wrote it.

Well... I guess in some of my romantic stories and fanfic, that is pretty obvious.

I mean, sometimes I make the male character kinda romantic, and perhaps make readers go "I wish I had a boyfriend like that."

And I maybe try to make the guy sound attractive, writing stuff like "She stared into his eyes, admiring the way the light from the lamp reflected in them and how it made them look sparkly like a starry night sky."

When you hear about men writing female characters. Some of them write weird stuff.

    Like unnecessarily mentioning their breasts.

I don't know if I do the same thing for male characters. Even though I think I have mentioned chests and stuff in some fanfics... but I haven' written stuff like "His breasts bounced like basketballs as he laughed."

I have seen some male authors being criticized for not being able to write female characters.

Maybe for reasons like them writing strange things about the female body.

There are times where I wonder if some of my male characters are too "feminine".

Like if I wrote a character, who was a guy, but the way that he acts or something makes him seem more like a girl. (I mean if I wrote that character that way unintentionally.)

But I don't think I have read a book by a male author and been thinking "that female character is too masculine".
