Given the way things are , I do not see a KPop song taking #1 in Hot 100.
The sad sight of a song which never entered Hot 100, replaced by a song which is even less palatable to foreign fans (having no English lyrics whatsoever), shows the utmost rejection of KPop by the Koreans.
And the obsession of companies to get recognized in Korea, which is only being abandoned by JYP and a few others, will make sure that songs which are palatable to the Koreans, whose market share are now increasingly becoming irrelevant, and not palatable to the global taste will be released.
It seems Melon has the last laugh. Not killing it proved to be KPop's death trap, as it is impossible to make a song which is both palatable to Melon and Hot 100. Anne Marie had a huge success at Melon but her songs were not impressive in Hot 100 or the Brit charts.
WIth IU completely obliterated by Bibi's all Korean song, which is ironically the first all Korean song she ever promoted, I wonder what songs the companies will bring.
I hope NewJeans comes out with a song which is more aimed at Hot 100 than Melon , but given Min Heejin's tendency to value control in Korea more than fame in the overseas, its new songs will at least have some elements palatable to the Koreans which will probably keep them away from #1 at Billboard Hot 100.
