yeah you got it spot on. unforgiven is a shining example of a song that keeps letting its momentum fizzle out and that never truly culminates in a satisfying payoff or climax or whatever to justify its jagged pacing. It’s not like with “anti-drop” songs wherein the more subdued beats serve a purpose and feel deliberately integrated into the overall vibe of the music in a polished and sleek manner; unforgiven with its southern twangs and cliches honestly just sounds kinda messy and somewhat empty to me and not in a good way
