BTS is far more popular than TVXQ in Japan. Not only they have a huge fanbase, they were also able to fully-penetrate to GP unlike TVXQ (no offense).

Well you know kpop stans. I've also seen a lot of delulu takes like 'TVXQ/Bigbang more popular than BTS in Japan' on reddit with a lot of likes too lol. And most of these fans came from Jurassic era which makes it even funnier. They would also give reasons like 'Well, tvxq/bigbang have more tour attendance in Japan' not even thinking that these groups have milked their Japanese fanbase far more than BTS because Japan is the best country for touring at that time (atleast before Kpop became bigger globally esp in the West).
Like, someone with a popularity of SVT can probably tour as much as them in Japan if they want to because of a big fanbase. That doesn't mean they are popular to GP with huge hits there.
Also, Jpn loves Dynamite!! Being 2nd to Yoasobi’s biggest hit is not an easy thing to do!
