Favorite Xianxia C drama?

    Journey of the Flower

    For me, the novel of Journey of the Flower was AMAZING. I recommend the novel to everyone if you are a fan of the Xianxia genre. It's still one of my favorite Xianxia novel top 5. It's not too long and the author really knew how to tell her story in a way that was really moving, great world building, and it was just a great blend of fantasy, humor, angst, and all the feels lol.


    I will have to disagree with you re the Cdrama adaptation though. It was decent but it didn't really capture the essence of the novel -- adaptation was good at the start but for the second half when things get complicated, it was not good. ZYL was fine as HQG when she was a student but failed the character in the second half. WH did good as BZH though.


    For me, I would be Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms as the best XX one - the adaptation was on-point and they nailed the characters, the complex world of 9 heavens, fox clan, ghost/demons, and the whole three lives plot. It was a little slow in the beginning to set the story up but I think among XX novel fans, this adaptation was one of the best due to how well it adapated a very complex world building/novel. MC also did very very well as YH/MY despite all the protest at the beginning that he was cast. YM also surprised me - I initially didn't like her casted as BQ but she kinda owned it. This drama also opened up the XX world to a lot of foreign fans, which is a happy surprised. I remember when it aired, so many discussions on the forums from the first time XX watchers....it was very fun.

    interesting - I haven't read the novels to compare so I will take your word on it but from a pure C-drama perspective though I think both Journey of a Flower and Ten miles of peach blossom are worth watching

    Yes, I would agree with you. They are both worth watching. I'm just being a picky since the novel is 1,000 better than the C-drama adaptation. It's also funny to me they translated the title to The Journey of Flower when it's called 花千骨 Hua Qian Gu (Flower Thousand Bones) which is the name of the heroine.

    lots of the names of english title in C-dramas are very different to the Chinese names lol

    It's okay. I don't think ZLY can sing all that well but she did fine on the OST duet w/ Wallace on the OST.
