Two miners trapped for more than nine days in a collapsed zinc mine in southeastern South Korea walked out alive Friday, authorities said, a miraculous ending to rescue efforts that once looked bleak.
An official of the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters met with reporters at 00:25 on the 5th in front of the emergency room of Andong Hospital in Gyeongbuk, where rescued workers are being treated, and said, "The isolated people said that they ate the coffee mix they had as if it were rice."
"When the coffee mix ran out, he said he was holding on by drinking water that was falling (from above)," he said, "and he was in good enough health to talk to us."
