In Seventeen Jun was always referred to as having a lot of potential but being camera shy I think limited him a lot. I honestly don’t know what happened during the contract renewal but he has had a surge of confidence and has gained so much popularity. I think this quote from his Weverse interview summarizes it well ‘’I was really afraid of saying something wrong when I just debuted. I was so cautious that eventually I stopped speaking altogether. Thinking about it now, I was sort of dumb. (laughs) There was no need for me to be that cautious. Better late than never, though, I guess.’’
During the Be the Sun tour he had arguably the most viral moments with his ponytail, his crop top crush performance and his absolutely magical Wave stage (each of the performance unit members looked incredible and the choreography is out of this world). I think Pledis are aware of this as he’s had two magazine shoots (Spotlight and Powercircles), attended Seoul fashion week (with Mingyu)and a solo in the span of like 3 months. What’s interesting is that Jun said he wrote Limbo in 2021 but things only really started progressing during _World era so you can tell they were waiting for the right moment. My final take away is Jun really was a diamond in the rough. Aside from being more confident nothing else has changed much. He’s always been capable of all this and there’s a satisfaction from seeing his growth into an assured artist. With his drama coming out sometime in the foreseeable future I hope he can reach even greater heights (alongside Seventeen!!).
