NCT system is useless

  • if the new nct unit doesn’t sell 1m albums in their debut album right away. Nct system would literally be useless cause any bg sm debuts would hit big with or without nct name and unless they can sell 1m off the bat then what's the point?

  • Am tired of nct. SM please just debut a new boy group and give them listenable music (title tracks) like exo 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  • NCT system was always useless, i'll even argue that a brand new SM bg will sell more than a new NCT unit

  • SM should be sued for false advertisment when it comes to NCT.

They don't feel like anything like the group they marketed them to be.

  • List of releases by the big4 companies since their inception. Yes, YG is the least productive and SM has more total releases than the others combined.

SM's amount of musical releases per year eclipses the next three biggest kpop companies combined as it is. The idea that there are great titletracks in their backlog that aren't seeing the light of day is silly, the idea that NCT system by itself is making that happen and just one more bg will fix this is even sillier. They either don't exist or you aren't really looking for them.

  • But the NCT system is doing exactly what it was designed to: create a familiar brand with marketable sub units that interact to create a larger revenue stream.

It’s not just about one group that can sell 1M albums but the ability to make additional money out of that group.

If I like 90s Love as a song and then I buy the NCT Resonance album and decide I like Mark because he’s cool and stuff. Then I follow Mark’s IG and I see him promoting with NCT Dream and I check that out and like that too, then I see oh hey he’s in NCT 127 too. SM has now gotten four album purchases out of me instead of just one. That’s not counting me buying Mark merch or BL live-streaming or concert tix. They’ve gotten four times the spend out of me then they would have gotten if there was only one group. That’s the benefit of debuting a new NCT unit vs just debuting a regular bg.

You can see in the sales volume, social growth and streams the way the all-unit main brand event (Empathy, Resonance, even Universe, altho on a lesser scale) raises the subsequent visibility of the sub unit releases. You can also see how the crossovers can raise visibility of members and introduce them to new fans, who may not have been fans of that specific sub unit, like Jeno or YangYang raising their visibility when Zoo went viral or Xiaojun on Make a Wish. Again, this plays back to each of their sub-units. I see Xiaojun and think he’s cool and now might purchase the new WayV album.

You can see it in the fact they have two sub units with a large enough fanbase to play Jamsil.

Considering NCT units make up over half of SM’s sales rn, the concept is quite successful. Particularly when you consider that the varying ages and countries of the members in the sub-units allows the group to weather enlistment - 127 members will start to go but Dream and WayV remain intact. Because of the nature of crossover units, they can also shift members into new NCT U units to keep the group viable during enlistment years.

Just because you don’t like the music doesn’t mean the group and the concept are not highly successful.
