The German island Helgoland
Funfact: at the end of WW2 the British army actually tried to bomb the island. A lot weapons and bombs and other stuff was gathered together on this island and they tried to completle demolish the island into non-existence. It was also mainly done to get rid of a military-base that was on said island. Germany was originaly not even the owner of this island till the middle of the 19th century. The island was first owned by Britain but Germany took over Helgoland after trading it for the island called Sansibar.
Helgoland is the German island that is from all islands with people living on it the one who is the furthest away from the mainland
The island was abonded till around 1954 as the first people came back to the island for military purpose. Today the island is mostly known for the fact that you are not allowed to drive a car there and cause mostly rich people have a holiday-house on this island.
Helgoland used to have arouns 2.600 citizen before everyone had to be evacuated in 1945 and to this day around 1.3K people are living on this island, but the majority of people you see on there are either tourists or people whith a holiday-house
Helgoland is parted into two islands, you can clearly see the smaller island very clearly from the bigger one and other way around but you can't see it from other islands or the mainland
