Why does BTS get treated differently????

  • Theyve had articles written about their 4 album verions to downplay their US sales, then they had articles written about the remixes and ARMY purchasing them to downplay their weeks at number 1 on Billboard Hot 100. Even though their songs went to #1 without a remix released and they ignored literally the rest of the western music industry who release remixes to keep their song afloat on the charts. ARMYs are told that because they buy BTS songs and remixes to make them chart it is chart manipulation. But why this energy????

Where is it for Western artists and literally the other K-pop groups and their fans who are and I quote heavily "manipulating" the charts too????

    Approved the thread.
  • They don't. I've seen that kind of energy at most groups for chart manipulation. People just see what they want to see though.

  • Its obvious, because they're threatened by them, BTS are the biggest act in the world, and the biggest band in this century. So when it comes to BTS the standard will always be different bc as the saying goes, the tallest tree attracts the most wind.

  • All groups get bashed for stuff like this. Fans just focus more on the hate their faves get while doing the exact same to other groups

  • BTS were the first act that had billboard writing dissertation on how they topped the charts on 1st September of 2020. It never happened before then and that shade couldn’t be more obvious

  • i think it's because other fans don't set the same mission to stream and fund a song to top the charts and chart it for weeks

  • There’s been a LOT of coverage about BP stream farms this week, both in reviews and even a whole NYMag long feature about it.

    In what reality?

All fandoms stream and organise charting, Blinks being the most recent example.

Then you have artist actively participating and guiding the "mission". Again, you have Blackpink desperate attempts, Justin meltdowns and Taylor signing hundreds of albums by hand so the fans get enticed to mass buy.

Reality is... only certain artists get bashed by the media and other get it easy

yes instead their company pays to get radio plays and spots in spotify playlists.

Watch Billboard not say a thing

  • It's simple, when BTS started becoming huge, they had no actual US label besides a distribution deal. Don't forget that BTS' 1st stadium concert was in 2018, in any case, American labels which control the music scene in the US couldn't have a non american group, singing in Korean become bigger then their own A-list artists. Hence the bad pub. Of course kpop fans ran with that also as they needed to bash BTS for destroying their faves in every conceivable metric.

  • All groups get bashed for stuff like this. Fans just focus more on the hate their faves get while doing the exact same to other groups

You might be thinking of fans bashing groups on social media. That’s normal. Even nugu groups got that too. What’s not normal is billboard, mainstream media wrote lengthy article highlighting why BTS topped the chart. Because how dare a foreign group that don’t pander to them get to be so big?

  • BTS gets the most flack compared to kpop groups because they're simply the biggest group in the US & the rest of the world. Media just loves to poke the wolves

So this is more a kpoo vs western thing? Cus no other groups except BTS and BP are big enough to get that type of media coverage

  • Y'all maybe didn't understand my comment!! but what i meant was the way bts/their fans topped the chart were very very different than the rest and clearly more inorganic than how other singers/labels do it... in a non acceptable way. The big difference is the gp know the songs and know most of the singers that chart high or are no.1 on bb but not the same with kpop acts charting + camping on the charts for weeks. It's not hating kpop or some type of phobia if it becomes too suspicious and nobodt really listens to the songs :/

Sorry to throw logic on your hate crusade but let me put it to you like this. Who are you or any of the haters to say how the chart should be interpreted. Why is streaming more valuable then sales, because we know streaming farms exist right (thanks blinkies). So let's see if there are streaming farms to increase streams and there is payola to get radio play, why is fans buying the allowable (within their rules) copies a problem?

I can guarantee you, that if Olivia Rodrigo had 5k streams in those weeks but 150k in sales, no one would have said a WORD. This debate on what is manipulating is funny, because we all know there is manipulation, what makes haters mad is that Army have the numbers and know how to make the rules work for them and their faves.

  • ;( people really love to use "payola" ever since they discovered it. Nothing wrong with streaming songs and purchasing but the problem is how it's done and why people find it problematic here in the west. Just different cultures on how songs are listened to. Blame payola or whatever you think is blocking our favorite kpop groups but i bet these songs would still all be on the charts without or without payola because that's what gp listens to in their own choice and kpop fans would still be complaining and idk if many know this but kpop labels also use payola in korea
