Why do Kpop fans care more about numbers than music?

Most conversation are about who’s selling more or charting higher, music comes second. Why is it like this with Kpop?

Because the music is shit

Because the numbers are something they contribute to by bulk buying and mass streaming. They talk about it because they feel it's their success which fills the gap in their otherwise empty lives.

Because music is subjective. After the Bop vs Flop threads there isn't much left to discuss. Some people liked it, others didn't.

Chart success you can compare and analyze longer

I used to judge hard success stans and I if I stanned for their success I would just have picked BTS. But it's fun to see your faves winning to be honest. It genuinely feel like some sort of sport where you root for your team aka your fav kpop group.

So they can live vicariously through these groups' achievements like its fantasy football or some shit.
