What does Somi have that other mixed idols (Kai, Vernon, Bahi,…) don’t have to be so popular?

Kpop fans often overlook mixed/wasian idols. Huening Kai, Vernon, Lily, now Danielle are least popular in their group even though they’re very talented. In Bahi’s case, she’s even hated and called untalented. Yet Somi is the one exception, loved in Korea, have hit songs, a favorite on variety shows and CF magnet. Why Kpop fans favor her and not other mixed idols?

Did people somehow forget that IOI existed?

Produce 101 literally started the survival craze around Asia (with Japan and China also adopting the formula), and IOI was the reason for it. They were huge in Korea, Pick Me was everywhere, and Veryx3 later that year was also a mega hit.

Somi was the center of IOI, and none of the those mentioned have that kind of notoriety. Bahi was in another Mnet survival, but GP999 is nowhere as popular as PD101, and she literally got in Kepler with no screentime and only because of her brother.

Somi is one of the most charismatic and friendly idols in the industry. She has a magnetic personality.
