Better than having Namjoon looking like a employed translator middling between interviewers and 6 korean boys

it's literally this
women might have a harder time in this industry USUALLY, but asian men have even more bias against them

Well, it's one of those "language barriers" that helped BTS gain more fans.
We can't deny their interviews were fun. Like Jhope's fave Sprite, Panda Express etc...
Remember the carpool Karaoke with BTS? That was a fun watch too.

Yeah but it put a limitation in their fitting at the us scene, probably not at the numbers but at the way they are seen during awards shows

its hard for the general public to accept a group of males who aren't ideal visuals in the west. the only people who hype up the looks of bts members are their own fans. it's hard to market them. doesn't help that they can only do bruno mars type of music with heavy auto tune.
theres a reason why youll never see v or jungkook in an american movie. look at jennie for instance. shes about to get really popular when her movie debuts. the other girls are as marketable since the west has always favored asian femals over males.

1. BTS are the first group to break through the west and the 1st always have it harder.
2. They are a BG and fangirls are looked down on in any pop culture.
But this makes BTS's achievements even more impressive because despite all the odds against them, they still managed to make their name known and wide spread.

i think you're confusing the new york post and the new york times

Ig they’re more appealing to the gp because of their visuals. Their fandom is also less obnoxious than armys so that might push a little less people away.

I think it's because they are woman. Usually boy groups in Asia tend to not look masculine and look cute and "girly", they dye they hair color to red, pink etc. I know it's normal in kpop and no one will say anything, but when I showed a kpop bg (not BTS) to my classmates, they had different hair colors, had heavy make up, lipstick on, they didn't like it and said they looked like girls, not boys and kinda laughed at them. If same happened in Korea I don't think they would have said that. So I think it's more about stereotypes, because Asian women are always seen pretty, exotic, attractive, they won miss world multiple times etc
so yeah it's my thought

Anyway, as an American it's easy to explain.
Dudes in makeup will never be accepted, were as hot Asian chicks will every time.

Asian women have been presented as "hot" by Western media for a long time (which is bad, fetishisation etc, but it means they're more accepted)
while Asian men are constantly ridiculed, especially if they aren't muscly and brawny.
BTS being as big as they are in the West is pretty much a unique situation and people will still call them gay forever, which BP will never face.

even western pop boybands are mocked
kpop boybands....? don`t get me started
-
i actually think the west are less receptive of Boy groups than girl groups. 5H, destiny child definitely made quite an impact and received better as they're talented
Boy groups with good looks like 1Direction, the west views them as joke. Unless you come up with band like Linkin park, you might be viewed more seriously
