My first thoughts on Pink Venom

  • Initially, when watching the MV and listening to the song at the same time, I didn't like how choppy some parts were. At first, it sounded like completely different songs mixed into one and while watching the MV at the same time, it felt a bit chaotic. It felt like a disappointing drop from the verse to the chorus and didn't match the build up.

However, I then listened to the song without the MV, and actually, I really enjoyed it. It flows much better and I appreciate the different sounds and backing music when not being distracted by the MV (which is stunning in itself). The chorus doesn't sound so empty, and even the ending 'ratata' part sounds good to me because of the beat and I can imagine myself dancing to it. I think when you're focusing on the MV, you might be expecting a different sound or music and perhaps the music that's playing doesn't match what's going on in the MV so you're left feeling underwhelmed. However, when focusing solely on the song with no visual distractions, I did enjoy it.

So to conclude, if you've only listened to the song with the MV at the same time, try just solely listening to the song without the MV, your opinion might change like mine. I can't stop listening to it now :pepe-dj:

I don't know if anything I've just said makes any sense.

  • I feel the same way. I think there are three types of MV, (1) story driven, (2) thematic/symbolism (no story but they had a mission or theme or concept to stick to e.g. Twice feel special, mamamoo starry night or momoland boom boom) (3) lets throw a truck full of money at someones pintrest board and an artists idea book and see what happens.

For me alot of BP's MV go for type 3, to the point that you can play another BP song ontop of an MV and its hard for people to recognise eras because the follow the same kind of concept, cool outfits. With 1 and 2 the MV is catered to the song so it adds a new dimension when watched together, and can even make me rewatch or enjoy the song e.g. red velvet's zzlb MV added to the madness of the song, sunmi's heroine the constant staging changes added so much to the dramatic horns.

Because BP go for 3 and they tend not to have any overall theme apart from look how amazing these real sets look I get distracted by the sets, the outfits, the hair and focus on everything but the song so I only hear bits and pieces. I rewatch and because the MV's have the same kind of style I feel like they are doing the same thing again with the song even though I barely heard it and because we get distracted we are only listening to small snippets properly so of course it feels jarring and weird, its like watching ep 1, 3 and 9 of a tv show, of course its not going to make sense.

I think thats why there are a bunch of songs we don't like when it comes out, but when we hear it randomly or it comes on a playlist we go crazy for it. We didn't actually fully pay attention the first time. For me that was RV peekaboo and Itzy dalla dalla. Convinced I hated both when I first saw them, heard more bits incidentally and feel for both.
