I've seen plenty of people hype her because she's a woman and her way of presenting her group is really unique, but what she said seems inauthentic to me.
1) She says she doesn't want to put pressure on her idols and wants them to enjoy themselves. While I do see that they are really rookies in terms of performing ,and not everything is perfect, which I was used to seeing, what is pressure for her when I saw how some of the members already got Lip fillers since they released their pre debut pics? Especially when she highlights how young they are and understand it's much harder for them. Kpop and in general people made it okay to think kids getting ps is okay when it's not. Some of them are 17-15, so do you think a 15 year old girl thinking her looks are not enough and changing her face are her business? By allowing a 15 year old girl change her face, she already created a competition she said she wants to avoid. She presented 5 the most perfect idol looking girls she knows the Korean audience wants to see. Not a flow at all.
She says she wants a new sound and not done before stuff and includes black?brown? boy and the other idk who it was as their love interest. While it's refreshing, why did she not do the same for her girls? Whitening their skin, what is the line for her?
2)She mentions how people contradict themselves because they want more awareness for child labor yet hold them to harsh standards and criticize themselves. While I completely agree, does she not see the irony? She is allowing a 14 year old girl (apparently their debut was delayed, so they wanted to debut a much younger kid) to debut in an industry totally not suitable for kids? Like she probably saw some would criticize her for that and is trying to point the other direction. She is still promoting child labor by making that kid debut. If you take off your stan goggles for a second, you know it's true. Idols who debuted young confirmed how they regretted it and longed for experiences they missed on. All the overworking stuff we saw, now think of the kids. Not to mention dark predatory side everyone ignores and acts like it doesn't exist. So no, kids should not be near training until they're 16.
Yes, it happened before, but it should have never happened. Kpop companies will continue doing it, but by talking about it at least will keep people informed.
She says she wants to show kpop fans a sound they never heard before, but nj music sounds generic bsides every other kpop group has. Their promotion is definitely new though, but that's it. When you think about who was totally way ahead of their time, Sm was it by debuting Amber.
At the end of the day, she just did the basic stuff other companies did and debuted 5 pretty kids. Her pr now consists of trying to make people think their music, among noise songs everybody is tired of, and her management are truly refreshing. She just taking it to another level by openly criticizing what should be criticized while simultaneously doing the same thing she is condemning.
Hybe invested millions of dollars into nj, so the "not for the charts" mindset is not really believable when you know h will want roi.
Girl group competition is fierce unlike 4th gen bg. You have to stand out in some other way and this is her strategy.
And no, I'm not a sm stan. I will be the first in line to criticize this certain groups' music. Their other groups don't catch my attention at all.
