Why are BTS collabs called clout chasers?

  • It doesn't makes sense to me :/ it would be understandable if BTS or the members were like often featuring in Drake's own songs or Dua Lipa's but they're not and BTS the ones asking singers to feature in their songs

  • What clout? They can give no clout as soloists.

lol you really thought you did something. JK just gave Charlie many achievements with their collab (and broke many records as the first kpop soloist), so just go be bitter somewhere else

OP is clearly saying that people are labeling bts clout chasers bc of their collabs, when 1) they have only collabed with smaller or artists as big as themselves 2) they barely do any collabs anyway and 3) all of their collabs have given the people they collab with a lot of succes (which can't be said about a lot of kpop groups collabs).

if there is any kpop group clout chasing with collabs, it's the one who always does one with bigger artists than themselves.

  • Perhaps not all of them want clout but years ago, Charlie Puth tweeted publicly "Jungkook look" with a link to his newly released song. Then when ARMY got pissed saying that they won't stream his music video just because he mentioned jungkook and called it clout chasing he claimed that he was not A clout chaser. But the question is, if he wanted Jungkook to listen to his new song and watch his YouTube video, why didn't he just DM him the link? He has that privilege. That happened months after their first Collab with him and he did an interview saying that he would do anything to have fans like BTS'. We all know that his JK tweets get loads of engagement. So tell me, clout chaser or not? ARMY have reasons why they act the way they do.

Everything is kpop is seen as an ulterior motive. Perhaps he wanted to have fun with the fans. Puth has been involved in some of the biggest songs of the last decade. Remember See you again? or we Don't talk anymore? I'm pretty sure that kpop fans scream clout!!! because they want more then anything for their Asian idols to seem like the bigger artist. They're not.

  • They might not be bigger artists but they have a bigger and more loyal fanbase that everyone wants a part of.

But bts is also clever - generalizing here ok? collab with Meghan = black listeners. Collab with Coldplay = white listeners.

Collab with Puth - soloist listeners and maybe gay listeners (huge market).

Now a collab with Bad Bunny = latino listeners.

Even if you check Justin Bieber on Apple music, his top songs are collabs.

Everyone do them and it’s beneficial to all.

  • because there're only 2 ways about it

    1. if BTS weren't popular but is featuring on another popular artist song. 'omg slay', 'KING SHIT', 'COLLAB COMIN', 'BTS so good they got X artist to feature with', any other combination works

    2. BTS is tremendously popular and is featuring on another artist song. 'lol clout', 'they only feature BTS for fame', 'riding on BTS fame', mix and match combinations and have fun

  • :/ so BTS are the ones chasing famous peeps?

BTS getting them in their comebacks than the other way around From Sia to Megan and Anderson Paak to play the drums for them

and that group that collab with bigger artists still nothing happened.

  • So basically BTS is chasing clout with different demographics with their collabs. Thanks for explaining it in a simple way that everyone can understand.

  • Because their collab partners always give the barest minimum. And the songs usually seem like they've come from a reject file, because why waste a good song when they know the thirsty un-discerning fanbase will happily throw all their money and streaming hours at a bad one. They don't want clout from BTS though, they just want some quick easy cash.
