Why are million sellers like aespa, nct, svt, enhypen, etc, doing horrendous in spotify?

  • Because those groups are generally unknown outside of kpop fans.

  • Aespa got 700k of their sales from china which has no Spotify or YouTube. Nct also has a large portion of their fanbase from china and Korea.

  • Casuals don’t like their sonsg

  • kpop is still not as big in the west as they would like to be tbh, only bts and bp

  • I think OP is saying some of them are flopping even for K-pop standards

  • the options are:

    • big fandom/mass buying in a country without Spotify like China or where it's not very popular like Korea
    • their international fandom has a lot of multis who buy a few albums each because these people tend to like collecting, but they also listen to a lot of groups and don't prioritize the most recent comeback when listening to music on streaming platforms (I know of a lot of people like this)
    • big fandom but the song just sucks
  • How is Enhypen doing horrendous? They're doing fine. Casuals don't like the new song, it's ok. You forget they're just a year old group, building streaming fandom takes time.

  • Aespa have over 200M streams in Spotify for 2022 with only a few songs, and their songs like NL and Savage are in the top streamed k-pop songs of 2021 in Spotify, incl better streams than songs like Alcohol-Free, Mafia in the Morning and Scientist.

That's not horrendous, so don't write them off that fast.

  • Do people realise the concept of fans not liking the songs themselves instead of the group?

Somehow everyone's so caught up in how playlisting hype etc etc increase the streams but I never knew this simple concept would be so hard to grasp. People not liking the songs being released. When all the groups have had divisive reactions recently.

they chaerted for 1 day, wake up

  • These groups get mid af streams even on chinese platforms like qq music

that's the thing that i don't get - aespa by far outsold bp's 2020 numbers and while it's largely due to china, aespa are a lot less popular than bp even there if we go by numbers on platforms like qq music or weibo

i think it may be that bp have more gp interest while aespa have more hardcore fans that will buy their albums? when/if sm hard launches aespa solo activities, i think c-bars will stop spending less on aespa's group activities and start saving up for solos. rosé bar limited their sales for the album a lot because they bought almost 200k for her solo not long after
