RE: "Controversial take: people who watch solo fancams and facecams (i.e. the cams that focus on body of one idol all the time) of kpop idol group's performances are creeps"

  • Seems like a lot of projection going on here. K-pop idols spend a lot of time to make sure their onstage performance and stage presence are topnotch. This includes aspects such as putting on the right facial expressions and executing precise dance moves. Why is it wrong for a K-pop fan to do exactly what a K-pop fan is supposed to do?

You're missing the point of fancams if you perceive them that way. Fancams are like highlight reels, no different from sports cams that focus specifically on one athlete's performance. It's only weird if you make it weird.

    OP
  • I actually watch them to see their choreo? I usually, if I like their overall group performance, watch them all to see what I missed when looking at the big picture.

    Sounds like projecting to me...

Well said. There are parts of the performance that I miss when looking at the "big picture," especially when there's a lot of fancy camerawork involved. With fancams, we're able to see the members' unique takes on the choreography. They don't always have the same routines as each other, so it's really interesting to take a closer look into that.

If I like a performance that much, I tend to watch every member's fancam because why not?

  • i like watching the solo fancams because they show the whole body the entire time and you can actually appreciate the choreo the members spent so long learning. I don't know how it's creepy to appreciate choreo... (I've never heard of solo facecams but I would avoid those.)

What is shown in actual music shows is fully of shaky cam, random zoom in/zoom out, quick cuts, shoulder and head shots and it really makes me wonder sometimes what the point of choreo is when no one can appreciate it.

Facecams aren't even bad, by the way. They're not exactly close-up shots of the face as you might think. They still zoom out from time to time, but the purpose is to highlight the performer's facial expressions, which are a big part of the performance. I'm sure you've come across praise about facial expressions.

Again, it's only weird if you make it weird.
