Be truthful is Blackpink’s long and frequent hiatuses an advantage for other girl groups? And will other girl groups growth popularity wise slow down when Blackpink comebacks?

  • I mean everyone says that bg have a hard time breaking out cause BTS is so dominant, is it the same for Blackpink (ofc to a smaller extent) them being mia from kpop scene allows for other girl groups to gain attention?

And if you do think that then which groups do you think profit off it the most?

And do you think we’ll see other girl groups slow a bit in gaining popularity when Blackpink does comeback?

  • it is because bp was the most active in 2020 with 3 cbs and dominated every stats/metric among ggs that year. I honestly believe they would have probably done that in 2018 had yg given them another cb after d4 but well i don't wanna dwell on what ifs.

  • - yes it helps other ggs break out but it also helps blackpink regain a positive perception

    - Most ggs are helped, as a top competitor not coming back as often allows for Twice, RV, and the bigger 4th gen ggs like Aespa (Ive/ITZY too?) to break records.

    - I think if a gg comes back at the same time as BP they'd lose more sales/popularity than expected to Blinks but it wouldn't cause their growth to go in a negative direction.

  • All girl groups benefit a lot from bp hiatus. Seen so many times people saying lack of comeback made them also stan twice, itzy and so on, so often that I'm pretty sure their growth is in part due to bp. They indirectly carry gg industry

  • As a blink I don't think so. Ggs were always way more successful within the GP so BP ain't giving others "time or space", BP are just on hiatus and this has nothing to do with others.

I think BP fashion is more important to kpop ggs than their hiatus.

  • Girl groups & boy groups do not work the same way at all, unless you're new to kpop these's no excuse to be this ignorant.

GG fans don't have problem with being multi fans, that's why as long as a pretty girl group puts out a catchy song, people will give it a listen.

Even if BP was releasing music regularly for the past year, it wouldn't have effected the rise of other new girl groups at all.

  • Its all debatable.

Did Wonder Girls promoting overseas instead of Korea make them lose popularity to SNSD? Did Jessica being kicked out of SNSD help Twice to become ngg? Did Twice dating scandals made them lose popularity with gp? Did Blackpink starvation strategy work for them to become #1? Is this strategy going to backfire because its getting old and they will do worse than expected next comeback? Who knows only time will tell.

  • No! Boom boom blew up in the same year D4 was released and got more streams than D4 which is their biggest hit. Most of the gg hits are viral hits carried by gp and they'd have blew up regardless of BP comeback..

  • no girlgroups are mostly carried by gp or casual fans anyways

  • I think so. 2020 was the only year where Blackpink was consistently active and they completely dominated. They had zero competition from Big 3 girl-groups in Korea (only OMG was pulling out the hits) and zero competition at all from any girl groups when it came to sales and international streams. They were not letting the other girls breathe

  • I'm a bit cynical about all the Blackpink group covers. Is it really from love and admiration, or are they setting out their stalls for bored Blinks? Plus their fans who are always in the comments pointing out how much better their faves sang it, and how they can enjoy the song for the first time.
