  • I. Introduction:

    GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE is a Japanese dance and vocal boy group formed and managed by LDH JAPAN, signed to the record label rhythm zone. They are part of the collective supergroups EXILE TRIBE and Jr.EXILE. Currently composed of six members (two vocalists and four performers), the group was formed in 2011 with seven EXPG students, including two finalists from the VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 2. They made their major debut on November 21, 2012, with the single "BRAVE IT OUT."

    II. History:

    2011: Pre-debut
    In April 2011, EXILE HIRO began forming GENERATIONS. The candidate members started their activities in the summer of 2011, with a major debut as their goal. The first members announced on Shuukan EXILE were Komori Hayato, Sano Reo, and Sekiguchi Mandy. On July 19, four more members were announced: Shirahama Alan, Machida Keita, Katayose Ryota, and Kazuhara Ryuto. Shirahama and Machida were members of the acting team GEKIDAN EXILE, while Katayose and Kazuhara were finalists from the VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 2. On July 23, the group started their Musha Shugyo event.


    2012: Debut
    On February 14, Machida left the group and rejoined GEKIDAN EXILE to focus on being an actor. On April 17, all six members were announced as official members. During July and August, the members held their second Musha Shugyo event without Sekiguchi, who did not participate. On September 11, Nakatsuka Yuta was added as an official member. On November 21, GENERATIONS debuted with their first single "BRAVE IT OUT," which was used as the theme song for the drama Sugarless, starring Shirahama Alan.


    2013

    On January 30, with the release of their second single "ANIMAL," the group joined the EXILE TRIBE, becoming GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE. On May 15, they released their third single "Love You More." On July 10, they released a collaborative single with Sandaime J Soul Brothers titled "BURNING UP." On October 9, they released their fourth single "HOT SHOT." On November 13, they released their first studio album, GENERATIONS, which achieved the #1 position on the Oricon charts, selling approximately 49,000 copies in its first week.


    2014
    On January 1, HIRO appointed Shirahama Alan as the leader of GENERATIONS. On April 23, they released their fifth single "NEVER LET YOU GO." On April 27, Alan and Sekiguchi Mandy were added as official members of EXILE. On September 3, they released their sixth single "Always with you." In November, it was announced that they would release a new album in February 2015 and go on a nationwide and world tour. The world tour was scheduled to take place in June, with stops in Paris, London, Los Angeles, New York, Taipei, and Hong Kong.


    2015
    On January 28, they released their seventh single "Sing it Loud." On February 18, they released their second album, GENERATION EX, which reached #1 on the Oricon weekly charts. From April 4 to June 28, they held their first live tour and world tour, performing in Japan, France, the UK, the US, Taiwan, and China. On May 13, they released their eighth single "Evergreen." On August 12, they released their ninth single "Hard Knock Days," the 18th opening theme of the anime ONE PIECE. On September 16, they released their tenth single "ALL FOR YOU," which reached #1 on the Oricon charts.


    2016
    On January 27, they released their eleventh single "AGEHA." On March 2, they released their third album, SPEEDSTER. From April 23 to December 2, they held their second live tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2016 "SPEEDSTER," which was released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 28. On June 29, they released their twelfth single "Namida," which peaked at #1 on Oricon's weekly singles chart. On November 16, they released their thirteenth single "PIERROT."


    2017
    On February 6, they announced the release of their fourteenth single "Taiyou mo Tsuki mo" on April 12. On May 15, they started their world tour GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE WORLD TOUR 2017 SPEEDSTER, which ended prematurely due to a terrorist attack in Manchester. On July 5, they released their fourth studio album, Namida wo Nagasenai Pierrot wa Taiyou mo Tsuki mo nai Sora wo Miageta. From July 22 to December 17, they held their fifth live tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2017 "MAD CYCLONE." On October 25, they released their fifteenth single, "BIG CITY RODEO."


    2018
    On January 1, they released their first best-of album, BEST GENERATION. From March 2 to March 18, they extended their fourth live tour in China. From May 12 to August 5, they held their sixth live tour and first dome tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2018 "UNITED JOURNEY." On June 13, they released their sixteenth single, "F.L.Y. BOYS F.L.Y. GIRLS." In July, they appeared on the Korean music show Show Champion. On October 31, they released their seventeenth single, "Shounen." On November 6, they attended and performed at the 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards in South Korea. On December 19, they released their fourth digital single, "G-ENERGY."


    2019
    On January 23, they released footage of their previous live tour. On May 25, they announced a 3-month consecutive release period, starting with their nineteenth single "Brand New Story" on July 17. Their new dome tour was also announced. On August 28, they released their twentieth single "DREAMERS." From August 31 to December 15, they held their seventh live tour and second dome tour. On September 25, they released their twenty-first single "EXPerience Greatness." On November 21, they released their fifth studio album, SHONEN CHRONICLE. On December 31, they appeared for the first time at the 70th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen, performing "EXPerience Greatness."


    2020
    On April 15, they released their twenty-second single "Hirahira." Their eighth live tour was scheduled from April 18 to July 5 but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 11, they released the digital single "You & I." On July 6, they held their first online live concert. On September 23, they held their second online live concert. On October 31, they held a Halloween-themed online live concert. On November 18, they released their twenty-fourth single "Loading...". On December 27, they held their fourth online live concert. On December 31, they performed "You & I" at the 71st NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen.


    2021
    On February 10, they released their twenty-fifth single "Ame Nochi Hare." On May 1, they released the song "HELLO! HALO!" digitally. From May 20 to June 2, they held a series of live concerts. On July 14, they released their sixth studio album Up & Down. On October 6, they released their twenty-sixth single "Unchained World," serving as the ending theme for the Netflix ONA Hanma Baki - Son of Ogre. On December 22, they released the tribute single "GENERATIONS FROM EXILE." On December 31, they performed at the 72nd NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen.


    2022
    On March 11, they embarked on their eighth tour. On May 23, they released the digital single "Atarashii Sekai." On August 3, they released their twenty-seventh single "Chikara no Kagiri." On November 1, their official fan club opened. On November 21, they celebrated their 10th anniversary. On November 23, they released their twenty-eighth and first double A-side single "Aikizu / My Turn." On December 3, they held a 24-hour program and released the single "PARTY7 GENEjaNIGHT." On December 15, their eighth tour ended.


    2023: 10th Anniversary
    On March 8, they released their seventh studio album X. On March 12, they performed at the live event "D.U.N.K. Showcase." On March 21, they held a press conference to reveal their plans for their 10th anniversary celebration. From March 25 to December 13, they held their ninth tour. On July 10, they released the digital single "Minna no Uta." From September 29 to November 10, they held their tenth tour. On November 21, they released their first mini-album beyond the GENERATIONS, and on December 7, they started a series of live concerts titled GENERATIONS 10th ANNIVERSARY YEAR GENERATIONS ORCHESTRA LIVE 2023 "THE LOVE."


    2024
    On April 13, GENERATIONS was appointed as support ambassadors for Japan's gymnastics teams. On April 30, it was announced that Sekiguchi Mandy would graduate from the group on June 25, 2024. On May 1, the group held a press conference announcing their future plans. On June 19, they released footage of their previous lives in a triple simultaneous release.

    III. Trivia:

    The group had several support members who later debuted in other EXILE TRIBE groups: Iwaya Shogo, Fujiwara Itsuki, Urakawa Shohei, and Hasegawa Makoto joined THE RAMPAGE in 2014, Sato Taiki joined EXILE the same year and later FANTASTICS in 2017, and Nakatsuka Yuta was a support member until his addition in September 2012.


    The official fandom name is "DREAMERS," deriving from their 20th single of the same title. The fandom name was decided on November 21, 2021, during a live broadcast to celebrate the group's 9th anniversary.


    The group has its own apparel brand titled MOE -MOMENT OF EVERGReeN- launched on November 17, 2023.

    On December 27, 2019, avex revealed the top artists with the highest number of views on their YouTube channel, with GENERATIONS taking the 6th spot with about 320 million views.


    On Produce 101 Japan in 2019, the contestant group "KSIX" auditioned performing GENERATIONS' song "BIG CITY RODEO". Solo contestant Mamehara Issei, who ranked 1st in the final of the show, also sang their song "Itsuka Harewataru Sora no Shita de" during his audition and revealed himself to be a big fan.


    Japanese judoka and gold medalist Sone Akira is a huge fan of the group. Her chosen game song is "Love You More" and she describes watching the group's DVDs as the best way to take a break.


    Japanese artistic gymnast and gold medalist Hashimoto Daiki has mentioned "To the STAGE" by GENERATIONS as a song he listens to before games.


    For the group's 11th debut anniversary, a special website was opened.
