gonna keep it real.... i don't really see this as as much of a huge deal as some of the reactions to it are making it seem. while i def think they charged too much for $150 box set in general, i thought everyone knew they were just paying for collectible covers and a ~5 page spread? i ordered a copy of the magazine bc i want the cover for collectors purposes just like i did with esquire. i understand being disappointed, and this is definitely an example of journalists trying to slide other kpop groups into the bts discussion, but the magazine apparently has spreads on other artists too, not just kpop, which is kind of how...magazines work? it was never going to be a 20 page spread of bts either way. y'all have got to let some things go. i think everyone who bought it def has a right to cancel tho, its just, stuff like this makes us look silly af sometimes. this is just how magazines work. rant and be angry but just be cognizant of how this will look to future publications bts participates in.
Well yeah. They want to sell as many issues as possible. Magazines have been doing collectable covers since I was a kid. We had a whole set of Star Trek TV Guide covers cause my grandma insisted.
I just Googled and it says the June issue is the "Future of Music" issue with BTS on the cover. I really don't understand why people were expecting just BTS. I mean I understand being annoyed, but again it's just a normal monthly issue and not a commemorative one so idk what people were expecting.
as an long time Army I am not mad they did spots on more artists from K-Pop in the same issue, I am concerned they advertised it as a BTS only issue, If they had said BTS would be the cover story and most of the mag but they would also cover some lesser known artists there would absolutely be no problem
I've always always had this problem with Army and i think it's one of the main reasons why i fight with them sometimes. BTS can sing as many English songs as they want, they can do as many American talk shows and promos as they want, but in the end, they are Korean men performing pop music. You can never strip them of their identity (and why would you even want to???).
They are KPOP.
I can understand why armys feel disappointed and angry because RS could've at least put those BTS individual members interviews because wasn't that supposed to be printed in there too if it's advertise as BTS collectible set of $150?
I think what armys angry about here is how that many pages of other other artist could've dedicated for the BTS individual interview which most armys are exited about and if they really want to insert about Kpop they could just make a few highlighted section for it if they don't want to add more pages.
But they instead put the individual interviews on their website and make sure to make it hard to be found as well.
Note: i said other artist above because if any artist get more highlighted/coverage in the magazine then the main issue which is BTS, they will also get the heat, and it just worse because it was kpop.
And tbh any kpop fans will be angry or feel disappointed if their favs special cover magazine expensive set didn't include the main interview and instead have BTS introduction, interview, and long explanation on how BTS took over the world that take many pages right after that.
It's just matter of perspective imo.
