yes. twice >>> all
unless jyp screws up again gives twice another shitty song
lee hae sol seems pretty good, so he may save jyp's garbage with expert arrangement
very rare to see non-asian artists in kpop and korean music more generally.
that said, insooni is a half-black legend in the industry.
an official theme song of the winter olympics in korea is hers.
somi is a legit kpop star and nobody there sees her as a foreigner. she naturally fits in perfectly, both culturally and linguistically.
maria (마리아) is popular in trot nowadays, and could be a fixture in that genre for decades if she wants. trot listeners are older and extremely conservative. maria's been broadly accepted into that community bc she's competely fluent in korean (and her grandfather fought in the korean war). they basically think she's a dlc reskin of a korean. btw, the show she was in (miss trot 2) had 30% viewership; in contrast, kingdom had 0.5%.
probably many other examples in different musical genres. cultural and linguistic ease seems to trump ethnic background for korean audiences. strange that interntional kpop fans are more averse to non-asians than the notoriously homogenous koreans.
"Live in 47 hours"
goddess tzuyu on tropical holiday
gwsn sadly moved on from this nu disco/future house sound with their latest release.
fabian torsson and harry sommerdahl haven't composed other kpop songs either.
hopefully gwsn either returns to this sound or another group takes it up.
simultaneous stepping sound is surprisingly satisfying
Give&Give「Going Your Way」
looks like fake news. the article reports gossip and speculation as news.
one obvious lie is a 10 year term - that is illegal in korea.
hit pieces about kpop idols are common in japanese media.
also a nice take here:
juri is a savvy girl. she's been in the music business since 2011 and has been a team captain since around 2015. sakura also consulted with her regularly while in korea (sakura also debuted in 2011, btw). juri negotiated terms that made it worthwhile to join.
yes, kpop album sales are much higher now than before.

also, bloated claims about the importance of china are fake, like most chinese statistics.
taiwan and SEA each contribute about as much china.
japan is actually the most important foreign country for kpop.
us is becoming increasingly important, especially with direct distribution now by major retailers there.
IZ*ONE would have probably done it eventually if, you know, they weren’t set to disband in a couple of months. As for the other current girl groups it’ll be hard but a lot can happen in 5 years so who knows.
izone will extend, probably for a year
that said, their final album may hit 1m if it's released simultaneously in kr and jp
to prevent misunderstandings, here is the performance.
though mina probably doesn't mind being locked up in a room as long as she has games, fast internet, online shopping, and food delivery.
More and More had 9-month gap from previous release but did not sell near 1 million.
that's bc fans know that twice will still release 2-3 albums last year (which they did).
if twice credibly only releases 1 album a year (or less, like bp), then 1m is easy.
the 2+m albums twice sells every year will be compressed into 1 album, rather than the usual 3-4.
only 22 minutes left!
bp is the biggest gg internationally bc sea
lisa is the biggest kpop star (oddly enough) on many metrics
again, bc sea
execs know this, so i would expect more sea kpop stars and activities in the future
kpop firms are businesses and money is more influential than racism for them
also, there are no fully white people in major kpop groups - this would not be the case if the racism/privilege claims are true
(btw, money often changed racial conventions in history - see books like 'Christian Slaves, Muslim Masters: White Slavery in the Mediterranean, the Barbary Coast, and Italy, 1500-1800')
groups
kpop covers a broad range of genres and styles
i do not care about most of them
i do care about the songs and activities of my fav groups
passive-aggressive is the opposite of fanwar
people say whatever they want in a fanwar without worry
p-a folks are too weak or scared to express themselves - i.e., useless in war (and pretty much everything else)
sea fans are the most important after japan now
sea will probably be the most important soon bc far more people and faster econ growth
execs know that kpop will always be niche in the west, even if some groups do well
i don't know where people are getting the idea that kpop doesn't care about sea
