I think what he means was that before 2017 they were both equally know but after 2017 they had a very different path for their different choice:

IU doing very succesful drama, costantly releasing and promoting music with the add of famous collaboration

Taeyeon after the end of 2017 was a missing person for months and then she did only music without heavily idol promotion for years.

And for those that say is sm fault i'm conviced that is Taeyeon choice, she was phisically and mentally devasted between 2015 and 2017, at her carriera peak.

So i gladly accept that she choose her Health.

And she is not flopping, simply don't have a growth of idol fandom. But her comeback is completely fine

Also the majority of the 'new Taeyeon fans' after GOT are not really her fans that are willing to buy albums though. They're just casual stans that hype Taeyeon when they interact with their faves. Those fans are not gonna convert into her fans just because of GOT. Like for example me I have no interest in aespa before, and then I saw Karina in GOT and she's quite charming, but did I purchase aespa's album? No. Did I stream any of their songs? No. So I am not gonna expect Taeyeon magically gain many new fans just because of GOT and see people praising her silver hair and high notes. With INVU however I hope she can get more new fans, because this is purely Taeyeon and if they're interested then they're interested for her not because of Winter or Seulgi etc

IU was able to catapult herself due to her drama and able to attract fanatic followers due to it because lbr Kdrama stans are even more fanatical than Kpop fans. Will she be able to outdo herself if she made a comebac? not sure because the majority of her new fans were from China where a ban is currently occuring.

Also I don't think many Jsones are left, because her Japanese releases have been selling quite poorly. But am I surprised? Not really that's just the reality of it. Most Sones have matured already with real life duties like paying loans, feeding kids, etc lol. Some of us like myself purchased 4 copies of Purpose+ Repack but this time I just purchased 1. Why? Because I don't feel the need to collect every PC anymore, I just purchased a new car so I need to save again and because my cabinet is full lol. A lot of Sones I know are at that stage already.

So what does this mean for Taeyeon? It just means that fans still love her all the same even if she's not gaining a lot of new fans. That I wish she keeps on singing even if there are only a sliver of sones/taengbbas left. If some are in it just to brag about Taeyeon's sales or her all kills (not aimed at you btw :)) then unfortunately maybe this is not the path for them and better jump ship because what comes up must go down

Anyway that's my take. Now all I'm wishing for is that she will give us an online concert. She must be itching to perform all of these new songs

Adult life means different priorities, but that doesn't mean we are not supporting her, it's just different

1. Flopping for HER STANDARDS

She literally is getting out there promoting a lot (I made a post already about it), with GOT she took a lot the attention of the younger Gen and the fact most of artist physical sales are rising and keep rising it's not weird to expect at least INVU sell better than Purpose.

2. I'M NOT EXPECTING NUMBERS LIKE BLACKPINK but I do were expecting better numbers than her last album. It's been 2 years since her last full album and the hype is there.

At least INVU single has the most global appeal of all her songs, if it's fully in eng I could've seen it topping the charts WW by a MPG

Also the spotify numbers are rising and rising so there's that

I think she is doing fine:

1) she doesn't promote for years decently on music show, and i think that was her choice because i remember a couple of time she told that

2) she is only a Singer, she is not an idol actress

3) she lost promotion during the years of kpop worldwode explosion, so it's difficult to increase a LOT her fanbase

4)nolto, got and her currently promo are doing the right work with her digital

5)her fandom is starting to be mostly growing up people with others priorities than bulkbuying album. So her strategy to focus the promo for digital are right

Personally i bought one standard version, i have to pay like 2000€ between taxes, bills and mortgage on february
