imo democracy only works when the society and population is ready for it. Forcing democracy upon a population who is not ready is a disaster waiting to happen and does more harm than good.

This is what happen when more and more people prioritize a person group identity over their individual identity. Also, with how the US govt and its media ramping up anti-China sentiments for the past few years, hate and racist incidents against east Asian will inevitably increase.

One of the downsides which many people fail to see are the things politicians willing to do for votes. Just look at the current situation between Israel and Palestine. Both the Israeli government and Hamas are willing to escalate the conflict just to score popularity points with their respective populace. You can also see the same situation happening with Modi handling of the coronavirus situation in India.
