This. A lot of westerners think of it as Chinese New Year because the way they found out about the holiday was through the way Chinese communities celebrate it. Korea and other countries that celebrate it don't have as big of a presence in the west, at least not historically. So the holiday became associated with China in the eyes of the west. Japan used to celebrate it before the Meiji Restoration. That last era Japan officially celebrated Lunar New Year was during the Edo Period.

There are also difference in other animals depending on the country:

Goat > Ram

Pig > Boar

Yeah in the multi-cultural areas where I'm from we have been calling it Lunar New Year for awhile. Like more than 5 years. Possibly more than 10. In less cosmopolitan areas I'm not surprised.

I guess the Chinese calendar uses the day after the second new moon and the Mongolian calendar uses the day of the new moon. The new moon "appears" on January 21 not 22.

I prefer Haerin. I like her cat vibes. I prefer Danielle's stage presence to Hanni's but Danielle and Hanni go back and forth between #2 and 3 for me. The remaining 2 members are cute too but they just interest me less.

新年快乐 translates to: Happy New Year. There's no character for Chinese 中國人 nor Lunar 月球 in the phrase.

I'm not angry, so I wouldn't call myself pissed.

I am disappointed. But many people pick and choose when to be sensitive at their own convenience-even me.

It's almost a Blop because it feels too...safe. But Taeyang said in his interview with Suga that he wants to work on being a good role model. Sometimes it's difficult balancing being a good role model and being an artist. So many artists get attention for being provocateurs.

Dishes containing tomatoes and chili peppers did not exist in what is currently referred to as Asia before the conquest of what is currently called North and South America.

I did a quick google, and that's what came up. I didn't say if it was accurate or not, I just pointed out what google is gonna spit out if you go searching for yourself. You can't get mad and then turn around and not even slightly bother to correct the rampant misinformation that I literally just gave an example of. I'm being nit picky but your source is from the UK, I'm not sure if they are a reliable source about a east Asian holiday.

Seeing the responses, I see how most people on this forum choose to be.

I would want 1 or 2 of these if I was actually still on the forum regularly. I'd be interested in Mira and Chishiya.
