It’s often just luck and timing why one group becomes successful at debut and another doesn’t - unless you’re big 3 of course.
You can be supremely talented and with amazing songs but if the general public doesn’t know you exist or isn’t interested enough to give you a try - then you won’t be successful.
Then you have to hope to become viral for something or build up a fan base slowly - but the industry is so over saturated now with more groups debuting that it’s hard to stand out.

No I don't think so. There has been major dramas since then like Start Up but none of them have had major OSTs. And that's normal. It's Okay Not To Be Okay is one of the most popular kdramas of all time but it never had a major OST.
Also manhwas a pretty popular over there so it's not surprising.
Anyway it sure brought some new life onto the chart as it was getting pretty boring. Already top 3 on 24hits, though it's probably going to fall below Dynamite soon considering it's been losing ULs for the past few hours.
We’ll have to see if any TV OSTs become big in the next few months, if not I think that’s a definite change with the new chart.
It will be interesting to see if the new chart makes much of a difference, if it isn’t prominently visible on the main page I doubt it will change much.

That’s great, hopefully they can win again this week!

Interesting. They need to do something about the current chart system.

Around 1 million first week? Hard to know.

I already have deluxe, so I won’t be getting. I’ve always only ever bought one album version.

It’s a great song, that’s for sure.

I presume this is an OST for a webtoon or Manhua (is that the word)? Does anyone know why these OSTs are the only ones that can chart well on Melon with the new system, as far as I’m aware no TV OST has had any significant charting since the change. All the OSTs I can see on the 24Hits chart are old songs. Have their been no hit TV shows since?

I think if aespa hasn't improved much let's say in 2 years then there's a problem but I don't expect them to do very well during their first comebacks, they have to build hype, show what they have to offer and establish the fandom a bit more before they become popular with GP. I also believe companies will focus more on fandom than GP so not sure how well SM will promote aespa with GP, one of the keys is gonna be Karina and Winter to bring GP attention tho and SM knows this too.
Maybe, I just think that BM has raised their profile with the general public already, which is why I expect an improvement in initial charting for their next release.
We’ll have to wait and see but I’m looking forward to what they release - I love the bridge on Black Mamba - Winter and Ningning have amazing vocals so I hope their music showcases their talent.

I’m most looking forward to it being their first song to pass 1 billion on Spotify, hopefully within a year.

In my opinion, they need to show improvement on Melon or risk being ignored in the future by the Korean general public. SM should plan out their promotion strategy very carefully.
