Hello! Have any of you seen the Bad Guys? Do you plan on seeing it? Did you like it? Why or why not? What parts were your favorite and least favorite? Spill all the details. Please be mindful of people who have not seen the movie though and put anything that could be a spoiler inside at least one spoiler. At that point, it's on them if it gets spoiled for them.
I went to see it on Saturday. My theatre was only about a third or a half full, so not super crowed and I had plenty of seats to pick from, but I wasn't really the only one there either. I had a gift card leftover from Christmas that covered my ticket and snacks, so that was nice. I ended up going by myself, but I didn't mind one bit.
As for the movie itself, I really liked it. Is it perfect? No. Does it have flaws? Absolutely. Are there things I wish they slightly changed about it? Yes. Yet, I still enjoyed it for what it was. I saw the trailers and went in expecting to like it and I did. A lot of people who reviewed it on places like Rotten Tomatoes or YouTube also said basically the same thing: it's not perfect, and there are a few plot holes and things that could/should have been explained, but it's a fun movie to watch. The animation is pretty stylized in a nice way (a lot of people were comparing its animation style as more cartoony and boundary pushing, like Spiderverse).
Now, for the spoiler-y part of my thoughts. Don't say you weren't warned.
I really liked Diane and Mr. Wolf's interactions a lot. Some of my favorite scenes were between those two. I do think she was a bit too harsh on him at first, especially considering how similar their pasts are (both were seen as "bad" by the public due to their species, stole stuff, tried to steal the Golden Dolphin but realized that they couldn't bring themselves to do it, then turned good), but I suppose she is the mayor and I can kind of understand it.
Seriously, the way she tried to cheer him up in the car, they way they were having fun in her basement, how he kept her identity a secret, how proud she was of him turning himself in, them dancing together, him using what she said about trash against her. I just-their dynamic is so fun to watch and a bit wholesome. To be completely honest, I lowkey ship them a little bit. I get that some people ship him with Snake, and I kind of get why, but I see Diane and him as more of a couple-y duo and him and Snake as more of a very close friendship/brotherly type of dynamic if that even makes any sense.
I also really liked just the softer scenes in general. For example, when Mr. Wolf finally got the cat from the tree and befriended it, the "girls trip" between Diane and Ms. Tarantula or when Snake shared his push pop for once. Stuff like that. I'm a sucker for fluff.
I'll be honest, Marmalade being the villain was not the most shocking or revolutionary thing ever, but him being the grandma did throw me for a loop. His whole evil plan was kind of silly and outrageous and I don't fully get why he did it if you know what I mean, but hey, the plot is the plot. The chase scenes were fun to watch though.
I'm disappointed that Snake didn't eat Marmalade. I get that it's a children's movie, but they literally showed him eating hundreds of gineua pigs, so they should have done it. This whole time since the beginning, he wanted to, and he never did. RIP Snake.
I personally liked the jokes and laughed/smiled at a lot of them (quietly of course, I'm didn't want to get in trouble), but I guess either other people didn't feel the same or were too tired, because everyone else was so quiet you could hear crickets (if there were any that is).
Anyway, if you've seen the movie, let me know what you thought of it. If you haven't, do you plan on seeing it later on at some point? Have a great day/night!
