Spotify is the biggest on demand streaming platform in the world. Of course it is more relevant than korean charts in grand scheme of the music industry. Not saying it is the only metric to consider but it's up there

Spotify is easy because it's used widely, so if you want to know how an artist is doing, it's easy to check up on. Kinda like Melon.
Spotify, iTunes, Gaon, Melon, hanteo, they're all just handy metrics, each telling their own story.
As for those that glorify Spotify while dissing all other metrics, well, that's probably because their main bias is doing well on Spotify but doing badly on other platforms. That's the usual reason when some Kpop fans make a habit of exaggerating 1 metric while at the same time ignoring all others.
Unless the discussion was specifically about that metric (like charting in Korea, or album sales, or Korean popularity etc).

As someone said, because Spotify is the biggest on demand streaming plataform in the world.
The reach a group can have to make more people to listen to their music is big even within K-pop niche. You see groups pull on 6-8M monthly listeners when they comeback or have a tiktok hit.
But any metric of music consumption is important, in my opinion. So no need to dismiss album sales or korean charts.
