How to get gif DPs?

Every time I try to put in a gif for my profile picture/display picture, it freezes at the beginning the gif like a normal picture. Some people have it so I'm wondering, is there a specific way to do it? All the files that I've been using for this have the .gif at the end.

Use this site. Find your gif and resize it to 128x128. Then optimize it to make lower than 300kb
