American politicians love to undercut each other. Lots of the reason why nothing much gets done is because lots of the politicians spend 90% of their effort undercutting others and the last 10% to defend against others.

I'm sure it's been brought up multiple times in the government but it probably wasn't politically expedient.

Kamala can't really endorse illegal immigration and they have to buy time to clean up the border system before they can start officially accepting people.... its a bad look for sure.
