Why exo couldn't be as big as bts?

  • SM wasn't as hungry as Big Hit, and they were way more unlucky with gp's taste. BTS from "Run" in 2015 to "DNA" in 2017 pretty much got a home run every single releases. This is easily one of the most incredible stretches of releases in history of korean music. Never ever a group was able to consistently excel their expectations in a long period of time with extremely frequent releases. Almost every single title tracks during this period clicked with the gp, something so unbelievable you really wonder if that really happened.

Exo took an expected road, BTS just did their chaotic thing and they reached wtf height.

But in 2017 a lot of exols were saying bts music is westernized and exo music is for korea.so they are more popular in korea and don't need western validation

I mean its exols, the general consensus was that Bts music was for western fans with edm and exo music was for their korean fans, not necessary korean gp. Exo never targeted korean gp since Growl/Overdose (Growl working, they though Overdose could work as well). BTS had some hits with korean gp already (run, inu) and they had some potential to replicate. Of course no one knew they could release something as big as Spring Day. But yeah especially with Fire, Dope and BST people were saying they relied to much on western market.

    Sounds like an excuse....
